HISTORY OF SPORT

The most important results of sportsmen of the Ski School and Ski Club Aesculap.

Years 1988 - 2003
Elaboration and photos: Michał Rażniewski

The representatives of AESCULAP have been taking part in various ski events from the beginning of the School and Club existence. At first those were mainly regional scope sport events. From 1973 began the starts in the Ski "Spartakiades" of PTTK (Polish Tourist Organization), Championships of Elementary and Secondary Schools, in the "Samotnia Cup" or Central Polish Ski Instructors' and Coaches' Competitions. More serious interest in sport started at the beginning of the eighties. We started to work with the children systematically and to look for talents carefully. We were forming several-person groups of most able children and preparing them to start in sport events. After mastering the slalom techniques, the children took part in the cycle of children contests, organized in Karkonosze and Kaczawskie Mountains, called "laurels". This was a kind of league for young ski talents in Karkonosze. The neighbouring clubs from the whole Region of Jelenia Góra took part in them.

Agnieszka Iwanow

Photo 1 Agnieszka Iwanow, one of the first competitors of AESCULAP on the slalom route in the competition cycle "laurel" of Łabski Szczyt 1984.

In that period the School and Club were represented by the following sportsmen: Agnieszka Iwanow, Agnieszka Cymerska, Robert Guminiak, Artur Piątkowski, Patrycja Kalamus, Maciej Strawa, Grzegorz Bacior and the brothers: Tomasz and Jaroslaw Markl. After successful regional starts, began the nationwide competitions. The ski competition with ski-mates from Zakopane or Bielsko has caused that, the AESCULAP sportsmen were gradually improving their sport level. Then they were mostly going to the Tatras for education. They were rather seldom on the top lists in the period 1984 - 1987. But they were collecting experience. The desired effects came soon... Below you can see the results important for the history of our Club.

Now short about our sport events. They are organized on the area of Ski School Aesculap as the competitions for its members. The competitions are among others: skiing tests for all schooling groups, family cups, AESCULAP CUP, fancy-dress balls. They aim at popularizing the skiing and of course activate our children and youth in sport. The culmination moment of ski upbringing and training was the participation in

The Central Polish Meeting of Pupils' Sport Clubs in Krynica (13.03). The organizer of those events was the Sport Club Gondola" and Polish Ski Federation. This was a great sport event in the frames of sport popularizing among children and youth in Poland. The organizers conducted the ski obstacle route race and team skiing shows. 30 our children went to Krynica. The best of our sportsmen in this event turned out to be: Miłosz Stelmaszak (who took the first place) Zygmunt Marchowski (who was the second) and Zuzanna Stelmaszak (who took the second place).

As a team, our Ski School Aesculap (UKS Aesco) took the first place (among 13 School Ski Clubs from all over Poland). We won
the golden medal and came back home with a beautiful cup.

Besides: in
VII Polish Central Olympic Games of Youth, our club took the second place (ex-equo with KS Snieżka Karpacz) among teams (the points for the team result won: Katarzyna Karasińska, Katarzyna Dębska and Bartłomiej Kwiek)

Therefore our disciples gained excellent results in this season. The participation of many groups of children and youth in various sport events should be noted. This fact confirms a good continuity of schooling. Our School and Club were represented by the sportsmen in the following age groups: younger child, older child, youngsters, younger junior and junior. Our juniors also started in the events for seniors on country level and abroad. The results came thanks to the hard work within the space of many seasons and good training preparations before the winter 2001/2002.
